FREDERICK GARRATT TAYLOR 1893 - 1915 | |||||
Frederick Garratt TAYLOR was born in 1893 of a Quaker family living in Selly Oak, south west Birmingham, and educated at the Quaker schools, Ackworth and Bootham. In December 1914 he volunteered to join the Friends’ Ambulance Unit, and served mainly at Dunkirk, France. On 25 September 1915 he was killed by German firing, probably while escorting wounded soldiers from the front. He is buried in Malo-les-Bains Commmunal Cemetery, Nord, France. Of him and others it was later written, “No one could call these young Quakers cowards, for they served incessantly in the hottest war zone”.
