HARRY HORWOOD 1886 - | |||||||||
Harry worked as a professional musician at Hoxton Hall in 1916, but lived in Belsize Park when he appeared before the Hampstead Tribunal in March 1916. He agreed to take on Work of National Importance, and was moved to Cricklewood to work at the Handley Page aircraft factory. Some COs like Harry were happy to accept civilian work on war material, marking a personal refusal to take life in war, rather than a general pacifist stance. All opinions were welcome in the broad church of the CO movement. After the war, Harry would help to found the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.
