Peace Murals Castlehaven Road London NW1
120 feet by 12 feet. Karen Gregory and Dave Bangs 1987.
The management of the Castlehaven Community Association wanted to improve its newly acquired dilapidated premise and make the local people aware of its facilities.
'We wanted a mural that would show real life situation, using local people involved in peace action both personal and political, promoting 'peace' as well as symbols.
The Management Committee are aware of Peace issues and how they could affect members of the Community Association. They wanted to raise people's awareness of the nuclear waste train that passes on the viaduct above the centre at 3am at night.' The murals have gone but the nuclear waste trains rumble on.
A new mural amidst the graffiti has appeared reflecting more immediate concerns.
