REGINALD SIDNEY POLLARD 1890 -1982

Reginald Sidney Pollard was born on 11th December 1890 in Scarborough, Yorkshire, to Bedford and Emily Pollard. He became a science teacher after getting a degree from the University of Manchester, and a subsequent MSc in chemistry.! During the First World War he served in the Friends Ambulance Unit from July 1915 to February 1919, in AT5 and AT16.
After the war he taught at the Quaker school at Ackworth and then spent 30 years teaching in Manchester. In his spare time he was an amateur ornithologist and his party found nesting avocets in the British Isles for the first time in 98 years. He died on 18th February 1982 in Scarborough.
